I never heard about Shinedown until recently, but this song is a masterpiece.
In an interview, Brent himself told ‘Devour‘ is a political song. he said they performed for the troops in Iraq. He talked to one guy who told him he hasn’t ever seen his baby cuz he’s been in Iraq and that pissed him off and he went home and wrote this song. In my eyes, it’s a direct “Fuck You” to the president. “Suffocate your own empire.” “It’s your final hour.” pretty much speaks for itself.

You know what?, maybe Brent Smith can go to Iraq and talk to the people over there that have had relatives beheaded or shot in the back of the head by ruthless terrorists. Our troops are fighting for us so that these thugs are exterminated and the President has done the right thing to protect this Country. I was going to see Shinedown, but not anymore. I’m sure Saddam Hussein and his sons would have loved to have seen them. If they were alive, we’d see if Shinedown ever came back to the US after their show. Get real Shinedown, if it were’nt for our President and the unbelievably brave troops, in time, you’d be dead along with the others in the Trade Centers, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon.

Shinedown is an awesome band and even though I don’t agree with their political viewpoint introduced into their lyrics I’d still love to see them. Now as long as they are fair to both sides so in 4 years when Obama had screwed things up even worse, they’ll write a song condeming him as well.
